- Description: Content isn't a campaign, a style guide, a CMS default interface, or a governance afterthought. It's the platform other things run on—and the experience is the only thing that proves it's working.

Over the last several weeks, I argued for something most organizations still get backwards: content isn't the thing you produce for a campaign. It's the platform everything else runs on.

The pieces built on each other—model, voice, governance, experience—and by the end they weren't really five separate points. They were one.

Here's the whole argument gathered.

[**Content is a platform, not a campaign**](https://www.truxell.net/content-is-a-platform-not-a-campaign/)**.** Most organizations budget content as an expense line. Wrong model — content is the foundation other things run on.

[**Voice is a system, not a style guide**](https://www.truxell.net/voice-is-a-system-not-a-style-guide/)**.** A style guide documents intent. Governance is what makes voice real across channels, vendors, and time.

[**A content model is the architecture**](https://rubicon.cx/a-content-model-is-architecture/)**.** Let the CMS define your content model by default, and you don't have a platform. You have a repository with ambitions.

[**The governance problem isn't new**](https://www.truxell.net/the-operating-model-problem-isnt-new/)**.** CMSWire framed this as an AI-era discovery. Rockley and Cooper were making the same argument in 2003\. AI didn't create the gap. It just made ignoring it expensive.

[**The experience is the platform's only job**](https://www.truxell.net/the-experience-is-the-platforms-only-job/)**.** None of the above means anything if it doesn't produce something a person actually feels. Get the invisible 90% right, and the visible 10% finally has something to stand on.
